Door een kleine aanrijding omstreeks 16:30 aan het kruispunt met de Kruisstraat ontstond er een file op de E34 richting Knokke. De brandweer kwam ter plaatse om de rijbaan te reinigen. In de file gebeurde er echter een zwaar ongeval met 2 personenwagens en een vrachtwagen. Een bestuurder had de file niet opgemerkt en knalde in op zijn Nederlandse voorligger. Door de klap werd de aangereden wagen tegen een vrachtwagen gekatapulteerd. In die wagen zaten 2 personen, de bestuurder was lichtgewond. De passagier zat gekneld en werd door de Zelzaatse brandweer bevrijd. Ook zij werd slechts lichtgewond. Volgens de brandweer heeft de passagier veel geluk gehad. Ook de van de aanrijdende chauffeur werd gewond afgevoerd naar het ziekenhuis. In totaal werden 3 personen afgevoerd. Brandweer Zelzate kwam ter plaatse. Ook de bevelvoerder van brandweer Sint-Gillis-Waas kwam ter plaatse. Er kwamen twee ziekenwagens ter plaatse \u00e9\u00e9n van Brandweer Sint-Gillis-Waas en \u00e9\u00e9n van Brandweer Assenede. Door het ongeval ontstond er zo&#8217;n 6km file.
