De chape bestaat uit verschillende lagen. Op de betonnen vloerplaat wordt eerst een egalisatielaag gegoten, zodat zo goed als alle leidingen weggewerkt zijn. Op deze laag komt nog een dikke laag isolatie, gevolgd door een ondoorlaatbare folie. Op die folie komen de buizen voor de vloerverwarming, die dan in de chape komen te liggen.
